• Question: Why did you choose diabetes as your topic?

      Good question… a tough one.

      I choose my research project because it has direct application, that being that synthesising that of medicines.
      As example of contrast, when choosing to research there were many theoretical projects that whose purpose was just to understand the further detail of chemical reactions. These are essential for research. However for me – I needed application.
      It just so happens that the compounds that I’m working with are very much suited to medicines that are better targeted at compounds that are already on the market for diabetes.
      Fact: Diabetes is a common illness and 2.8 million people in the UK with the disease!
