Hi Chloe. Flowering plants have chosen pollen as a way of reproducing. To get the pollen to other plants, their strategy is to attract insects such as bees and mosquitos with food, and stick the pollen to them. Flowers are a massive signpost to say “FOOD’S UP! GET YOUR NECTAR HERE!”.

Interesting factoid – insects can see a broader spectrum than humans, so flowers look even prettier in ultra-violet and infra-red.

Hey chloe!! Good question! As Drew said flowers are certain plants way of reproducing. They attract the insects which then take the pollen to the next plant – this is pretty sweet coz it means that the insect gets dinner and the plant gets to make new plants! brilliant!! 🙂
