I reckon that transport is an awesome invention – cars/planes/trains/buses…that kind of cheating because its a lot of inventions but I think they’re pretty amazing! Even though we should probably try using them a bit less to save the environment.
But I also like custard – thats an invention and a half!!! 🙂
Hi mark and mhud! I have two all time favorite inventions and they are both old.
The first is the printing press. Knowledge is power, and the invention of the printing press brought knowledge to the common man! We wouldn’t be the advanced civilization we are today without it (prior to the invention of the printing press it took one person a year to copy a single book!).
The second is the telescope and also the microscope. Both allowed us to peer into worlds unseen – the cosmos and the microcosm of the cell. Both brought unheralded discoveries about the world in which we live!
As for modern inventions – I would say the internet. That has brought an information revolution almost on par with the advent of the printing press. It is like a next generation information revolution!
Tempted to say the paperclip – but not really. There are lots of inventions that have made huge changes in our lives – plastic, cars, computers. For sheer coolness factor though, I think I’ll go with Sara and say the printing press, maybe for slightly different reasons. The ability to mass produce the bible broke the stranglehold that the centralised church had over civilisation. It was revolutionary in every sense of the word.
