      Hi pinkcookie,

Lots of things happen when you are pregnant!

Pregnancy is often considered in three stages, each of three months. These are typically called ‘trimesters’.

In the first trimester, there is a rapid increase in the amount of hormones in your body designed to prepare the womb and your body for the developing pregnancy. These hormones start to soften the tissues around the womb and the pelvis to prepare for later growth in size of the uterus.

All of these changes are related to the hormones and it takes a while for your body to become used to the higher levels of the hormones. These hormones are body chemicals that are doing important things to prepare your body for growing a new life inside you – they cause changes in almost every part of your body and all these changes coming at once is probably the main cause of the morning sickness that pregnant women get. Usually morning sickness dies down after the first 12 weeks though!

During the second trimester you start to feel the baby move and you get a lot bigger and might have less sickness but more aches and pains – and during the third trimester you get practice contractions and get even bigger!!

Sometimes I think that pregnancy sounds a bit weird – having a little baby growing inside you and your body changing so much and getting HUGE!! But actually it’s a really beautiful thing – pretty amazing!
