      Hey tfry!

Thanks for the question! Firstly, how did you find out you were allergic to zinc? That’s pretty neat they realised what it was because its not a common allergy as far as I’m aware! 🙂

Anyway the answer to your question is a little complicated to find out – as far as I can see zinc is not used as an additive or constituent in many medicines so you should be quite safe (but I would check this every time you need to take something with your doctor!). Some creams do have a lot of zinc in them – they are usually skin creams for babies or for dry skin…so always check the ingredients! Also be careful with multivitamins because they are bound to contain zinc.

As far as other things go…don’t smoke!!! Zinc oxide is a constituent of cigarette filters!
Also Zinc oxide is added to many food products like breakfast cereals because zinc is a necessary nutrient (Other cereals may contain zinc sulfate for the same purpose.) Some prepackaged foods also include trace amounts of ZnO even if it is not intended as a nutrient.

Zinc white is used as a pigment in paints and in coatings for paper.

How allergic are you? do you get a bad rash or do you get even sicker?

      🙂
