Hi tfry. You probably don’t need to worry too much. Polar bears are classed as “vulnerable”, which is very different to “endangered”. Now that people have stopped most hunting of polar bears, their biggest threat is climate change. If we don’t do something about climate change, they’ll eventually head towards being endangered as the amount of ice shrinks and the weather patterns reduce the amount of food they have available.
Well it’s not really easy at all.. changing the way the world lives by stopping pumping out CO2 from the millions of power stations that provide energy for the lifestyle that we demand…
I guess you could sponsor a polar bear??? Call it Fry?
Yay! Polar bears are my all time favourite animal! As Drew said their biggest threat is climate change because they are loosing the ice they need to hunt and live on. You could sponsor a polar bear through WWF (they give you a really cute polar bear toy) or become a scientist specializing in climate change 😉
I love polar bears!! They are so awesome. So cute, such amazing predators, and they have such neat fur. I think Kimberley’s got some great suggestions for us about what we can do immediately to help. In the long run it is up to stopping global climate change though. And, that is not necessarily something humans can fix. Hopefully we can (Earth has awesome regulatory mechanisms for maintaining itself!). At least we know they can survive and breed in captivity though – so its likely even if we loose the wild ones we’ll still have some around. That’s not true for all endangered species. So we’ll hope and work toward the best on this one!
