Good question. I actually don’t know what I believe. There is no scientific explanation for ghosts however I have experienced paranormal activity. My mind always tries to rationalize everything that I experience by using science, however some things just can’t be explained. What do you believe?
Hello mwilliams, hardscope, and bsykes! Really fascinating question. I am actually really similar to Kimberley on this one. Rationally I think much along the lines of Drew, we don’t know have any plausible mechanism. However, neutrinos were originally very mysterious, hard to observe, and with no rational mechanism but they are there! So, I like to keep an open mind – just because we don’t understand it doesn’t mean its doesn’t exist. Right now my rationality tells me no, but I’ve lived in a few “haunted” houses, and seen some very strange things! So, I have to keep the possibilities open. So I would say I don’t know what I believe.
In any case, it is fascinating to think about things like ghosts and try to figure out how they might work. At least that is a fun exercise!
Hi roflatop,
We know that humans can see things that aren’t there. We also know that stories can be misreported. Whenever I hear of something strange, the test is always “Is it more believable that the strange thing actually happened, or that someone misunderstood or misreported what happened?”
