Hey! I love CSI and any crime drama! I did think about being a forensic investigator – but I didn’t know if I would be able to cope with it mentally – especially if you are in criminal forensics. Must take a special sort of person right? 🙂
I have to admit that I have only watched CSI a few times but other science investigation programs such as Silent Witness did make me want to do science. I went on a forensics course at Nottingham when I was deciding what to do at Uni and I realised that I am probably too squeamish for that kind of job.
Hey … I did really wanta be a foresic scinetist too!! I like the idea of solveing problems and i like crime mysteries and all that kinda tv..
It was a career that I did look into after I graduated… However I decided against it because the science behind it is very analytical you are measuring and anlysing all the time. So I chose a synthetic route as I feel you gain a wider skills set of ‘making stuff’ and you still need to know how to analyse everything too!
Hi, I’m a big fan of mystery shows. Some of the “science” in CSI can be unrealistic, which drives me a bit crazy. To make a good TV show they have to cut out the details that would make it real and more interesting to me. There was a show called McGuyver when I was growing up. He used to use scientific ideas to make all sorts of improvised solutions to problems.
Hello shigamoo! CSI is a great show! Awesome that it has inspired you =) Crime scene investigation shows are certainly pretty cool. I also really like medical investigation shows like House too. But, my favorite shows are always the ones that are a little more on the Sci-Fi side. I like Eureka, Dr. Who, Firefly, and basically any show that pushes the boundaries of science. Those are pretty fun!
Hi there shigamoo19,
I am a forensic anthropologist (more like Bones from the Sky TV show than the people in CSI), in the IAS Forensic zone. I love CSI (especially the Vegas one), although sometimes the story lines and the evidence they can collect and analyses they can do are a bit far-fetched, and unrealistic. I think it is a great show though, because it has inspired a lot of young people to be interested in forensic science, and has lead lots of people to find out more and even follow careers in forensic or police science.
Amy and Kimberley are right, it does take a certain type of person to do forensic science, and, especially in my field of forensic anthropology, you need a strong stomach.
If you’re interested in finding out more, come to the Forensic Zone, and ask us some more questions there!
