Hi Retaxox. My favorite inventor is Nikola Tesla. He was a real mad scientist. If you look him up, he invented some really important things that are necessary for the modern world to work (like AC power!) as well as some crazy things that would never work.

Hi Retaxox… I’ve just been reading a book about william hershall (famous astrologer)… yes Geek I know. However It inspires me cus I think If they cud do it then with the lack of technology then I should be able to do it no probs… well at least in practice!

I think that people who can invent stuff are amazing. I don’t ever have any really good ideas. If I had to pick an inventor it would be Leonardo Da Vinci as he was a very clever man who came up with lots of great ideas.

Inventors in the world now? I would say James Dyson – lots of people invent stuff thats not really that useful or don’t affect a lot of people…but Dyson vacuum cleaners are used by thousands of people across the world…and they came from the UK. They help normal, everyday sort of people – like our mums – and that can only be a good thing! 🙂

Hey retaxox! Wow there are some great ones listed here. Nikola Tesla and DaVinci are particularly inspiring! They really were amazing people. I would have to say one modern inventor that inspires me is actually Bill Gates. I mean he really helped to make computers accessible to millions! BASIC is such a cool program – without the advent of easy computer languages to program in – we wouldn’t be able to have this discussion over the internet!

As far as inventions – I think the most inspiring to me is the invention of the printing press by Johannes Guntenberg back around 1440. The printing press, sound boring right?? But I don’t think there is a single invention in history as revolutionary. Before the printing press knowledge was only for the elite – books took months to transcribe. A single monk could take a whole year just to copy one book! After the printing press, everyone could access this knowledge. It was a major information revolution. Amazing how knowledge can empower people!
