Question: Apparently, scientists dont care about fashion do you i understand its all about safety but you have to look good but the secientists named as amy and sara i love your profile its really nice and nice picture!!
What do you mean we don’t care about fashion! One of the post-docs in my lab has a pink fitted lab coat. I also have mirrored safety specs. I mean we have to be safe but we want to look good too. Outside of work I love fashion, especially when I get the chance to dress up!
My profile picture was one of the only ones where I am not doing a silly pose. I am in a vineyard in San Francisco 😛
Hey! Thanks for saying you like my picture! My friend Sam said I look creepy…but he’s a chump! 🙂 🙂
I think as a scientist you can look good! I mean, you do have to be safe right? but you can dress how you want under your lab coat and you spend some time in an office too so people get to see your clothes! Anyway – to be real deep – its what inside that counts, not your clothes…although don’t let the lack of fashionableness put you off science – some of the girls in my lab have amazing dress sense! (the boys have a bit to go!) 🙂
Awww thanks lady and daidai!! I never actually look like a “scientist” I guess! People are always shocked when I tell them what I do. Because I don’t work in the lab I don’t ever where a lab coat.
Scientists can be totally fashionable. I love to shop =) The only time I may have looked the part was when I was walking around with medical tape on my black frame glasses – but even at that people always thought I did it on purpose (they were in fact actually broken!) so that I looked totally geek chique. I got a lot of compliments. It was sooo funny!
On a side note – us ladies here (and I should add Drew too – sounds like he has quite the fashion sense – I’d love to see a pick with a Fedora!) are not the exception but probably more the rule among fashionable scientists 😉 There are lots of us out there! This is one of my favorite blogs (what would a nerd wear? She is pretty fashionable! ) http://whatwouldanerdwear.blogspot.com/2011/06/short-story.html
Sorry, I had to comment – I LOVE FASHION! When I graduate from my PhD, my reward to myself is going to be a pair of black satin Anemone shoes by Christian Louboutin. I’ve wanted them for two years, and I can’t wait!
You don’t have to dress like a geek to be a scientist. Being a fashionista is perfectly OK. In fact, I’d say that we’re a pretty cool lot on the whole! Right Scientists?!
i know right im totally designer and im only 12 wiv the paul boutique which i now hate cuz his getting old i luv designer and fashion ive made my own outfit
Yeah you can totally be cool and be a scientist – don’t let it put you off! I think we’re a pretty fashionable bunch on the whole! (with a few exceptions…)
