Hi Davies. I’m sorry to disappoint, but there is good historical record for where the idea of Atlantis came from and how it grew. The people who first mentioned Atlantis almost certainly didn’t believe it was anything but a story that they had made up themselves.
It is also not really possible for a civilisation that big to “sink”. And a civilisation that advanced that never colonised anywhere else, or even had boats suitable to escape on?
People have been talking about Atlantis since the ancient Greeks, writing about a lost civilisation in the Atlantic ocean. Since then loads of people have tried to find it, even the Nazis sent an expedition to Tibet to look for survivors from Atlantis!!
Just earlier this year some Spanish people found what they thought was the remains of a city in some Spanish mud flats, that could have once been at the bottom of the sea. Basically there’s loads of theories, that it could be in the Mediterranean, in the Atlantic ocean or other places, and that big earthquakes, tsunamis or volcanoes caused it to disappear. No-one really knows, but many people think the ancient Greeks just made it up as a joke anyway, so they’d be surprised we’re sending expeditions all over the world searching for it!
